At AQMetrics we have a highly skilled, experienced and diverse workforce with wide ranging backgrounds. Today, we introduce you to our Head of Sales, Darell Miller.
Describe your job in three words:
Rewarding, challenging, fun.
What are you working on right now?
Can I say everything? Well migrating the MiFID II clients of Nex Abide of course. We’ve onboarded a lot of NEX Abide clients in recent weeks, so things have been fairly busy. That will be ongoing for the next few months.
I’ve also been leading the outreach on our Liquidity Stress Test solution. There’s now only six weeks until the ESMA regulations come into force; lots of firms are doing this in-house, but others are reaching out to us. Having a trusted, third party and second opinion is always a good idea. This ensures that you’re always compliant and implementing best practice.
What does a typical day look like?
I’ll start with a morning call with my team, where we’ll just catch up on the previous day and outline the strategy for the day. It’s good to know exactly what everyone is working on and how we can support each other. And having a morning call has been one good way to stay connected during a very weird 2020, where we’ve mostly been working from home/remotely.
From there, I’ll catch up on any client prospects. My days usually consist of client meetings, pitches and product demos for prospective clients. That’s the part I enjoy most. And in more normal times, I would be going to events, workshops and seminars. I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing clients face-to-face soon.
How has your background helped with your role in AQMetrics?
My commercial background is in investment banking, data solutions and reg tech. It really helps to understand the clients’ overall business objective as well as the underlying data when helping them scope out solutions to their problems.
Best thing about working in AQMetrics?
The people and their dedication to our clients. Customer delight is one of our main core values, and it really underpins everything we do – from the product, the on-boarding and the ongoing customer success.
What websites do you visit the most?
BBC and Economist for news and depending on the season either magicseaweed.com and wavelength.com for surfing, or Teton Gravity Research and snowheads.com for skiing.
Last book you read or movie you watched?
I’m actually in “book mourning” right now. I’ve just finished the ‘Mirror and the Light’ by Hilary Mantel, 754 pages of pure reading pleasure. But it brings to the end the wonderful Wolf Hall trilogy about the life of Thomas Cromwell. Quite literally the end (spoiler alert if you didn’t study the Tudors in history) as there’s no coming back from a beheading!
Tell us something about yourself we don’t know.
I was a world record holder at the age of seven, along with over 3,500 other people! This is in no way cool but I was part of the world’s longest Conga Dance around the Brands Hatch racing circuit. In my defence I was a child and it was my parents’ idea to get involved.
