At AQMetrics we have a highly skilled, experienced and diverse workforce with wide ranging backgrounds. Today, we introduce you to Ireland-based JavaScript Engineer, Mike Maher.

Describe your job in three words:

Interesting, challenging, rewarding.

What are you working on right now?

Currently the engineering team is laying the groundwork for some exciting new features and improvements planned for the application in 2021. We have just finished a project making some enhancements to our MIFIDII reporting module, but there’s lots more to come.

What does a typical day look like?

Once I sign on for the day, I’ll check my emails and then I’ll look for any open pull requests that are awaiting review and approval. Next up, I’ll look at our project boards and backlog for any tasks. Throughout the day, I’ll complete these tasks and submit code for review. I’ll take queries from the customer success team, marketing and my colleagues in engineering on all things web related – from possible bugs, reviewing new functionality, updating the website, or helping with our web marketing tools. There’s real variety.

How has your background helped with your role in AQMetrics?

I’ve worked in IT for 5 years, although I started out as a Business Analyst. That ability to take a range of business requirements, and then translate them into smaller development tasks really helps me understand the needs of the clients and customer success team. I spend a good amount of time fleshing out the details of a task before diving into the code.

Best thing about working in AQMetrics?

Working for a small, focused development team affords me the opportunity to take true ownership of a task, from design and planning to development and testing. It’s a great opportunity to expand my knowledge base.

What websites do you visit the most?

Stackoverflow, Youtube, Reddit, Twitter.

Tell us something about yourself we don’t know.

I collect penny presses from the places I’ve visited around the world.
