We have a highly skilled, experienced and diverse workforce at AQMetrics. Today, we introduce you to our Head of Human Resources, Nora Grendon.
I’ve been the Head of Human Resources since February 2017.
Describe your job in three words:
Motivating, rewarding and exciting.
What are you working on right now?
Things continue to tick along at AQMetrics, despite the disruption that Covid-19 has caused. We are lucky that we’re a cloud-based SaaS firm serving investment management clients. Demand for our product and services remains strong, and our entire team can work remotely for as long as needed. No one has been furloughed and morale remains good.
In terms of the HR team right now, we are still hiring, particularly developers and data scientists. The firm continues to expand – both geographically and in terms of our technology solutions – so we need to hire the best talent to support that. It’s more challenging doing all this remotely, of course, but it’s no less rewarding.
How has your background helped with your role in AQMetrics?
I studied HR in NCI and completed a post grad in HR & Recruitment. I have worked for a number of large global multinational companies including PayPal, Intel and Merck, all of which have given me great insight into global talent attraction, development and retention. I am also a qualified career coach.
Best thing about working in AQMetrics?
We’re in a period of active recruitment at the moment and it’s exciting to be seeking new developer and engineering talent. The team has also been incredibly accommodative and caring during the Covid-19 turmoil, despite being scattered throughout Ireland, the UK and France.
We have regular team Zoom meetings and regular one-on-one check-ins with people. And we are giving everyone at AQMetrics additional ‘mental health’ days, which are additional days of leave for people to really de-stress and relax during the pandemic crisis.
Who would you most like to swap places with for the day and why?
I think if I could swap places for a day with someone it would be David Attenborough. Travelling to all those amazing places and seeing so many animals in their natural habitat.
Last book you read?
Becoming by Michelle Obama.
Websites you visit the most?
Pinterest, ASOS, Instagram, Lonely Planet.
Tell us something we don’t know about you.
I once spent a year travelling the world. Some of my highlights were surfing in Hawaii, climbing Franz Josef glacier in New Zealand and doing a skydive over the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I also hold a Padi diving license that I obtained in Thailand.
